Friday Opening Session:

Welcome, AEAUT Awards Ceremony, and Keynote Featuring Josh Davies: 2030--The Workplace Revolution

The modern workplace is constantly evolving and changing, with some jobs going away (switchboard operator) and others being created (app developer). But every 30 years, a new wave of technology fundamentally changes the workplace. Assembly lines, computers, and the internet all dramatically shifted the nature of work, and changed the American workplace. Looking ahead to 2030, there is another revolutionary wave that is going to crash the future of work in America. The combination of automation and artificial intelligence will create a new revolution that will destroy not just jobs but potentially entire industries. And this year has already moved these changes into hyper-speed. Rather than sit back and hope, now is the time to prepare for the coming reality of 2030. We need to be developing the revolutionaries of the future! There will still be jobs, but they will require a different set of skills and abilities. Learn how to develop the skills that will make you and your job seekers relevant today and in the future. Don’t sit back and let the waves drag you down, choose instead to ride the coming revolution – and come out on top!

Keynote: Less Talk, More Walk: Creating a Culture of Trust and Accountability
One of the greatest challenges a leader faces is dealing with issues of Trust and accountability. How do you ensure the people you’re leading demonstrate integrity on a daily basis? Do you practice it yourself? Do you model accountability throughout your organization in your interactions with others, operating practices, and personal work habits? Personal and organizational ethics are one of the easiest things to talk about, but hardest to walk. This highly interactive session will address trust and accountability directly through a practical, proven methodology you can employ to build accountability throughout your organization. Using a collaborative and positive approach, participants will go through an experiential assessment and use the results to focus on how to get themselves, their team, and organization not just talking, but walking trust and accountability. The workshop’s content is driven by best practices, cutting-edge literature, and real-world experiences of leaders across the country. Don’t miss this opportunity to transform yourself and your team from talkers to walkers.

Teaching the Big Picture (English or ANYthing), 2:45 PM
We educators are intimately familiar with our subject areas; we often fall in love with them! As lovers of our various disciplines, we can forget that newcomers (most of our students) need some kind of a meaningful framework to hang detailed knowledge of our boring subject on. My goal is to give participants examples of, and help them build, such useful, interesting, memorable and effective frameworks.Attendees will receive copies of Mark's own "Big-Picture" instructional frameworks, a worksheet for creating their own frameworks, and a signed picture of Scooter.
